Signs of insecurities:

- Low self-esteem or negative self-image

- Sensing that your performance is never enough

- Avoiding social interactions/ self-isolation

- Anxious or avoidant detachment styles

- Depression

- Self-doubt

- Poor decision-making skills

- High levels of stress and anxiety

- Focus on others more than yourself

Causes of insecurities:

- Lack of family emotional support

- Lack of emotional intelligence

- Lack of openness

- Poor academic/ job performance

- Abusive/ neglectful relationships

- Medical/ mental health conditions

How to deal with insecurities:

- Acknowledge the role that the insecurity/ies plays in your daily life by honestly acknowledging, and evaluating how the insecurity has hindered your growth.

- Plan on how you will target and take action with this insecurity

- Openly communicate your insecurity concerns with those that care for you, and that will be your support system.

- Celebrate the small and big steps you have taken to handle or rid your insecurity.

- Take care of your physical health. Exercising releases endorphins, which my high school running coach called it happy hormones because, you felt good and energetic afterwards. (It definitely lifted my mood and made me feel like you could conquer whatever came next)

- Pursue professional care: You can read my post ‘Friends v Psychologists’ for more information on this last point.
