I genuinely have been struggling to write this last part of this marriage symbolism (I really hope I do justice to this post.) Any time I think of a topic, the idea seems easy till its time to execute and I realise I bit more than I could chew. Lets not waste anymore reading time and jump right into it.
Today's topic will be in specific reference to the Christian faith view of marriage. 'Till death do us apart':
Words spoken - what or how much weight do these words truly hold. The weight that these words hold are of grave importance (pun intended). The tongue holds a lot of power, even more in the presence of God and our loved ones. We are breathing life into these words to our souls that are to be one, right after we say 'I do'.
Intent and purpose: God's intention of marriage is for two people to leave their parents home, make a binding covenant to each other, to love (1 Corinthians 13: 4-7) and respect each other till death separates them. It implies permanence and strength of this union. By saying the vows in the presence of God, you are welcoming and creating that spiritual bondage of becoming one, till death.
Unity candle: In the Catholic church, with each stage of our lives from baptism, holy communion, confirmation, and marriage, there is candle that symbolises a unity with those that are committed to the next stage or chapter of their life with God, and to whoever else is committed to them in the new journey. So, in terms of marriage, the candle is a visual representation of two souls and two families becoming one in marriage, in the presence of God.
Wedding rings: I believe that this symbolism is obvious (lunchbar). The rings are circular in shape = eternity, made out of a kind of metal = strength, and before you put the rings, your partner would bless the rings by saying 'in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit'. This is also showing that God is present in the union before these two souls, for eternity, permanence and strength in order for the union to be separated by death as God intended.
I know there is never telling how life could turn out, but if you are blessed to enter into this chapter, invite God into your marriage, so God can be the glue to create the permanence in your marriage in the most godly manner, as God intended. Remember 1 Corinthians 13:4-7.
