Story Time- The Ruse

The following week from my second round of fasting, I experienced a negative event. A good acquaintance of mine, which invited me to dinner to celebrate closing a deal left me stranded at a mall (far from my flat). A back story to this is, before I accepted the invitation, I told him I was broke and only had transport money, and he said he got me, I must just come. Fast-forward he didn’t pay for my half of the bill because I rejected his proposal of entertaining a romantic relationship with him. Dad bailed me out by transferring money into my account, right after giving me advice. Oh and the cherry on top, to end my night, my phone battery died on me while trying to request for an Uber.
I felt angry which I had a right to because he betrayed the trust I had in him. I finally got home because of a Good Samaritan and paid them R50 as a token of appreciation. I was angry to the point I nearly forgot TO CENTER myself (and I couldn’t even eat my food that I brought home with me, does that not irritate you too?). He sent 3 text messages in the morning apologizing, which I saw in my blocked list and left it at that and moved on. I have not spoken to that acquaintance ever since.
In Dj Zinhle’s self-loving journey part 2, she speaks of eliminating anything negative in your space, and also removing yourself from that negative space to protect your well-being. This may seem drastic right now, but there might be a situation where you are going to have to cut off a friend or a family member or even places where you might go to or the things you do or even topics that you entertain. You are what you expose your mind to. All your decisions are made up from things you have exposed your mind too.
A little tip for such situations: have a reminder that will keep you focused whether it is your parent, a good friend, a symbolic object or saying particular words or even counting to 10. This will most definitely help in centering or rooting yourself back to whom you are and where you are going.
It really is easier said than done because when it comes to practicing what you preach it’s another ball game. Don’t shoot yourself if you do go off your path/rails, you are human. You are a being that reacts, just don’t allow it to control you, you must control the reaction. That’s something I am learning and you will learn, which will make you a better person.
